Kmart Notebooks

When I was a kid, I loved the stationery aisles at Kmart. All those pretty pens and paper clips and sticky notes lined up in perfect formation inspired me to write and create. Those aisles spoke to me in a way that toys or clothes never did. Give me a 128-page notebook over a Barbie any day.

I’m not sure exactly why stationery is my thing, but I think it probably has something to do with spending a lot of time at my parent’s business when I was younger. Mum was (and still is) in charge of the accounts which meant the office stationery cupboard was full of lots of cool stuff like pens, highlighters, staplers, typewriter ribbon and carbon paper. For Mum, stationery was purely utilitarian, but for me, office supplies helped me to express myself. They were full of possibilities and potential.

I still peruse KMart’s stationery aisles whenever I can. I’ve been really impressed by the quality of their products of late so I thought I’d share some of my favourite notebooks and diaries.

4 of the prettiest journals you’ll ever see

Now as you are already well aware I am a journal junkie. I don’t even want to try and put a figure on the number of beautiful, blank journals I have sitting in the cupboard to the right of me. The lure of a new journal is way too great for me to ignore much like shoes and handbags are to other people.

I was going through my bookmarks on the weekend when I found a link to a fabulous artist, Evelyn Henson. She creates beautiful art that inspires people to create a brightly coloured life. Now, she has a whole lot of awesome stuff on her website (art prints, greeting cards and mugs and more) but what I’m really loving are her journals. If you’re a journal junkie I think you’ll love them too. ♥

New Game of Thrones themed Moleskines

It’s Game of Thrones day! If, like me, you’ve been waiting with baited breath to find out what happened to (SPOILER ALERT) Jon Snow today’s the day! I haven’t been this on edge since (SPOILER ALERT) Glenn slid himself under the dumpster in Walking Dead. Lordy! If you are a Game of Thrones fan *and* a paper nerd you are going to LOVE these special GoT themed Moleskines.

This Limited Edition series features four hard cover designs, each with a different house – House Lannister, House Stark (two different designs) and House Targaryen. Each notebooks’ cover band includes a history about that house, and the front and back inside covers have detailed maps of Westeros. How freaking awesome, right? You can grab yours from Notemaker.

I’m back! (Did you miss me?)

Guys, I didn’t expect to be away from the blog for almost three months (yikes!). I can’t believe how fast time has flown by! Instead of stressing myself out I decided to take a little blogging break in December. I had such a busy end to 2015 freelance writer-wise so instead of trying to juggle everything I decided to let the blog have a bit of a snooze. It was actually a pretty big breakthrough for me – I realised that it’s important to have some stress-free down time and it really did me some good.

But I’m back now and wanted to share with you five things that caught my eye over the break.

I love everything about this notepad, especially the hand lettering header. SO cute.

Listers Gonna List

This is an amazing paper model designed by Ellen Giggenbach. Super colourful and easy to assemble this would make a great addition to a kid’s room.

Owl and the Pussy Cat

I am really, really into Bullet Journalling at the moment and am keeping mine in a Midori Traveller. I ordered a Confettidori from Teddi Confetti last Friday, and I can’t wait for it to arrive. If you want to get your hands on one, you have to be quick. The shop is only open for a minute or two every Friday (here in Australia) and these get snapped up so quickly that it is not funny. I’ll post pics of mine when it arrives.

Teddi Confetti

I’ve found that I’m way more productive if I keep and regularly update lists of things to do. The energy you need to expend trying to remember all the bits of information that are floating around in your head could be better used getting things done. I loved this piece over on Lifehack about the 21 lists you need to keep to live a more satisfying life. How many lists do you keep?

I love the idea of Pocket Letters. If you’re over boring old letters, you might want to try your hand at these. Basically, you fill a nine pocket trading card protector with cool stuff like journaling cards, ATC’s, washi samples. tea samples, photos – the possibilities are endless. They create something unique and gives you more of an opportunity to express yourself and your interests. This video from Janette Lane (who came up with the idea) is a great place to start if you’re keen. Let me know if you want to swap Pocket letters!

Guys, thanks for checking in. I so appreciate you stopping by – especially after my extended hiatus!
Don’t forget to sign up for my weekly newsletter and be sure to check out the Happy Mail Day Etsy store for printable stationery and stuff. I’ll be adding some very cool book bags, pencil rolls and notebook covers over the next few weeks so stay tuned!

Moleskine – Blend Collection

I must admit I really like the new collection that was recently released by Moleskine. It’s called the Blend Collection and it features hardcover notebooks covered with a really nice textured fabric. You can choose from four fabric colours – blue, red, green and purple – and each cover features an elastic closure and bookmark ribbon in an accent colour.

What do you think about the new collection?

Old English Company – notepads

Are you a list maker? I think lists are so important for productivity. It’s really hard to be efficient when you’ve got a bajillion tasks floating around inside your brain. My motto is – write them down to get them done. Of course, you’ll need a pretty notepad to write all your to-dos on, right? These ones are from Old English Company.

Tell Them Stories

I spied these lovely goodies by Melbourne-based Tell Them Stories and they immediately caught my eye with their geometric patterns and colours. I am especially keen on the Japanese bound notebook I’ve featured below (Fire) – so, so pretty.
