Rifle Paper Co journals

rifle7

The team at Rifle Paper Co have been hard at work adding new products to their ever-growing range of paper goodies, which is awesome for us stationery lovers. I’ve been a big fan of the biz for a while so it was a treat to get hands-on with Rifle’s new Vintage Blossoms and Rosa journal combos recently.

rifle9

The Vintage Blossoms set consists of two journals that are 150mm x 202mm and contain 48 blank pages. The cover is made from a thin cardboard and while it has some sturdiness to it, it would be easy to crease or damage if not careful. The cover features beautiful illustrations with that unmistakable Rifle style. It also has gold foil accents that really elevate the design to another level.

The Rosa set (below) is smaller in size with each book measuring 106mm x 139mm. They feature the same thin cardboard cover but it’s made stronger because of the smaller size. The Rosa set also features gold foil accents. This smaller set is the perfect size to carry around in your bag.

All of Rifle’s notebooks are printed on high quality paper FSC-certified paper stocks. Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), is an organisation created to ensure sustainable forestry and holds the highest level of environmental standards in the paper industry. The inside paper stock is a cream colour and is untextured. I didn’t do a pen test on these notebooks because I’m giving them away.

Thanks to my friends at Notemaker for giving me with these gorgeous journals to review. Notemaker stocks a whole bunch of Rifle Paper Co goodies so make sure you pop by and have a look.

An Ashley Percival Giveaway!

Two years ago I featured the gorgeous animal art of the super talented illustrator Ashley Percival. His animal illustrations have a kind of laid back, magical quality that would work so well in a nursery or kid’s room (or grown-ups room too – I’m a big fan of this one!).

I was so happy that Ashley got in touch last week to let me know that he had a bunch of limited edition prints available on his Etsy store. They are, of course, so lovely and would make a great inclusion in anyone’s art collection. Oh and they are perfect Christmas pressies too. Want to win one? Keep reading!

This one has been exhibited on the London Tube!
Owl of the Night.

Christmas cards too!

Ashley has also designed a range of Christmas cards featuring his animals that will be sold online and off (the range will be hitting Paperchase very soon).

Win! Win! Win!

Ashley has graciously offered to send 4 limited edition prints (of your choice) to one of you very lucky readers! There are a few ways to enter so get cracking! (Ashley will send the prints anywhere in the world too. Thanks Ashley!)

a Rafflecopter giveaway

What are you reading this Christmas? Win a book pack worth $150!

Tim Winton's EyrieI have a shameful amount of books on my to-read pile. It certainly gives my to-read magazine pile a run for its money! One book that I’m going to be adding to the collection is Tim Winton’s Eyrie.

I watched a Jennifer Byrne Presents: Tim Winton piece a few weeks ago and hearing Winton talk about the setting of Eyrie reminded me of the Johnston Court apartment building in the centre of Fremantle.

I don’t know, perhaps it’s just me but that place has a weird vibe. I remember viewing a pokey little apartment with a friend about 20 years ago. When I told Mum the address of the apartment she was shocked because she’d lived in the exact same apartment years before. It’s like the building has tendrils that weave their way through the community. It seems like everyone I know has a Johnston Court story.

I don’t know if Winton’s Eyrie setting was Johnston Court or an amalgamation of a whole bunch of different places. Either way I can’t wait to read it.

You can grab a copy of Eyrie here or have a look through Bookworld’s super handy gift catalogue.

Win! Win! Win!
Want to win a mega-amazing Bookworld bookpack worth $150? Of course you do! All you have to do is head over to the Bookworld Giftshop and leave me a comment telling me what book is #1 on your to-read pile! Aussie’s only (sorry). Entries close MONDAY 2ND DECEMBER at 11:59PM AWST!.

Competition time

I don’t think I’ve mentioned this on the blog before but I am super excited to have been named as one of the top 26 Creative and Home blogs in Kidspot’s Voices of 2013. Pretty Paper Things was nominated by a lovely (so far anonymous) person. I love you anonymous person.

As a part of Voices of 2013 Ford Australia is running the Choose Your Own Adventure Challenge and I’m one of 20 lucky bloggers to be picked. I get the use of a sweet candy red Ford Focus Titanium for six wonderful weeks.

I can’t even tell you how this has impacted my life in the short time I’ve had the red beast. If you looked up ‘reclusive writer’ on the Google-thingy I’d be at the top of the page with a not-so-flattering pic of me in my jimmyjams because that is how I roll. It’s not that I don’t want to go out…it’s just that we are a one car family and during the work week I’m car-less.

But not anymore babies!

Each fortnight I’ll be posting a little bit about the car and the adventures I’m having. As this blog is for serious paper nerds I’ll be sure to give my posts a little bit of a paper spin too. I’m not being paid to post this stuff but (there’s always a but, right?) I am in the running to win the use of a Ford Focus Titanium for a whole year and that would be CRAZY INSANE.

I’m in the midst of prepping up this week’s post and I need your help.

WIN! WIN! WIN!

We’re heading off on a road trip this weekend and I need your help to compile a killer road trip playlist.

Leave a comment telling me your favourite driving tune and you’ll go in the running to win a 3 month Spotify Premium e-card or a stationery-filled care package full of my favourite things. (unfortunately the Spotify Premium e-card is for Aussies only but international folks are welcome to enter. I’ll send the care package anywhere)

This contest closes on Tuesday August 13th and the winner will be chosen at random. I can’t wait to see your suggestions!

Giveaway! Win a Budons pack

When I was a kid I looked forward to the start of the school year. Yep I was one of those kids. I wasn’t bored with the holidays or particularly excited about learning. Nope. It was about one thing. Shopping for stationery. Paper nerds get it. The start of the school year is like Christmas all over again for us.

Now, I haven’t been to school in a very, very long time but all the back-to-school nostalgia came flooding back when I got my hands on a few goodies from Budons to review. All I can say is my Mum and Dad would be significantly poorer if these were around when I was a kid!

In my opinion, kid friendly stationery needs to have three things.
1. It needs to be durable.
2. It needs to be colourful.
3. It needs to have longevity (i.e. kids can’t get sick of it after a week).

The Budons range (which is available from Target) ticks all these boxes, particularly longevity, by introducing a collectability factor to the mix. The larger items (notebook, backpack, pencil case etc) can be customised with 26 different clip on characters. The kids in my life love anything cute, collectable and changeable and the ease that they can swap these items makes the range even more appealing.

Giveaway time!

Budons were kind enough to give me a Back-to-School pack to give away to a lucky PPT reader featuring the items in the image above.

  • A customisable notebook
  • Scratch ‘n Sniff notebook
  • sticky notes
  • water bottle
  • two cute Budons characters to start your collection

All you have to do to enter is leave a comment below. Simple, right?

I’ll ask my 12 year old niece Amber to choose the answer that she likes the best.
The competition closes at 9PM WST on Saturday February 2nd and is open to international readers.

Good Luck!

***Competition is now closed. Thanks to all who entered!***
